With only a few days to go until we are back to adult sessions, I want to share with you a little more about our new amazing class offerings, that will be included with all adult and student memberships starting from 17th May. As well as raising awareness and discussing the important issue of mental health this MHAW.

Learn to do Takedowns

Takedowns for BJJ

Every match or altercation starts on the feet! But because we have the option to pull guard in tournaments, takedowns have become such a neglected area of our sport and martial art; with many schools not even teaching basic takedowns anymore!

So to have Balazs (an international level Judo coach) leading these sessions will bring tremendous value to those in attendance. Balazs has been training and competing in Judo since the age of 5 and is a Black Belt 2nd Degree in Judo as well as a BJJ blue belt.

Whether you just train for fun, focus more on self defence or competition this class is for you. It will be open to EVERYONE 15yrs and older so be sure to get booked in and prepare to level up your game and get confident on your feet!

Yoga for BJJ

Another exciting addition to the schedule. Yoga for BJJ is a well renowned online yoga platform aimed at Jiujiteiro’s like you! We are fortunate enough to have Kamil as part of our team who is a level 1 certified coach meaning we can bring this to you in person.

Jiu Jitsu has many health benefits, but yoga helps balance out the toll that hard training takes on the body. Each 45 minute long class will help you recover, improve flexibility, boost your energy levels and ultimately contribute to improving your performance on the mat

Sessions will be held every Sunday morning at 10.45am – All levels welcome!

Mental Health Awareness Week

MHAW 2021

With the past year putting immense strain on most peoples mental health. Now more than ever people are looking for ways to de stress and reconnect with themselves and other people. As we said earlier this week on our Instagram – too many people suffer silently and alone.

Jiu Jitsu for me has always been an essential tool in managing my own battles with mental health. Of course almost all exercise will boost your endorphins and make you feel better and that’s great. But where I believe Jiu Jitsu is different is in the building of lasting friendships on the mat.  

I have met and made all of my most meaningful friendships while training Jiu Jitsu (apart from my wife!). People that have helped me grow as a person and to confront my weaknesses. All of which has translated too my life outside of the academy.

Whether you are a member or not, if you are struggling with your mental health, don’t suffer silently, or alone. GB Harrogate has an amazing community of members and while no one can promise to solve your problems for you, we can certainly help better prepare you for dealing with them!
