We hope you’re all well and have been able to settle in to using our class booking software, GymDesk. If you’re having any issues, please don’t hesitate to contact a member of our team who will be more than happy to help!
It’s been a busy October here at the academy with a visit from Professor Victor Estima, some fantastic gradings and promotions plus much more! November will be no different, with a return to competition for some of our team, as well as a special evening ahead for Professor Lewis, as he prepares to take on Saul Rogers at GrappleFest 17 next weekend!
Christmas is just around the corner, so please save the date for our Christmas party - 22nd December! It promises to be a great nice and a good opportunity to socialise with your fellow members off the mats.
Don’t forget we’re running Buddy Fortnight this week and next! Enjoy £20 off next month’s membership when your buddy signs up, and enjoy welcoming a new training partner to the mat at the same time!

Buddy Fortnight: 6th - 19th November 2023
We’re running Buddy Fortnight until 19th November! Simply hand out your buddy cards to friends you feel would benefit from one of our taster sessions, and you’ll receive £20 off next month’s membership when they sign up!

Competitions: The Greater Manchester Open & The English Open
A big good luck and well done to those competing in upcoming competitions! This weekend we’ve had the Empire Grappling Greater Manchester Open - We’re really excited to hear all about how you all get on and win or lose, what lessons you bring back to the academy to improve your game!
Well done to Bryn, Arthur, James, Jackson, Gary, Ryan, Niamh and Finlay!
Coming up at the end of the month is the English Open! This is a major UK event and we’re incredibly proud of the team heading down to compete on the national stage, and testing yourself against some of the best opposition in the country.
Best of luck to Aaron, Jack, Mikey and Luke!
Grapplefest 17: Professor Lewis vs. Saul Rogers
We’re incredibly excited to watch our very own Professor Lewis hit the mats at one of the UK’s leading grappling events - Grapplefest 17 on 18th November. He will face professional MMA veteran Saul Rogers in what promises to be an electric contest between two high calibre competitors.
The event is available to live stream here, and we’d love to welcome as many of you to the club as possible to watch on the academy TV! Keep an eye on Gymdesk and our Whatsapp groups for more information to follow shortly.

We’re really excited to be planning this year’s Christmas party on 22nd December. We’ll be heading to Revolucion de Cuba on 22nd December for good food and friendly festivities! Book your tickets here, +1s welcome!
GBF Returning January 2024
We’re really excited to announce that GBF will be returning in January 2024! The last programme in particular was a great success, and we’re delighted to see so many of that class on the mats with us still!
We’re really proud of our female representation here at GB Harrogate, and making the mats a safe, inclusive space for everyone to feel comfortable when they’re training. If you know someone you think would be interested in our next programme. Classes will kick off on 8th January, and will available twice a week for 8 weeks.
For the first time, we’ll also be offering day time GBF classes! These will be at 9:30am on a Tuesday and Thursday, whilst evening classes will be at 6:30pm on a Monday and Thursday.
We’re offering the full course for £168, which includes 2 classes for 8 weeks plus your uniform, which will only need to be returned if you choose not to continue into our GB1 programme at the end. Get in touch here to find out more.
Professor Victor Estima Seminar and Grading
Thank you to everyone who attended our recent Professor Victor Estima seminar here at the academy. It was a privilege to have him here with us, and we hope you’d agree his techniques, principles and insights were fantastic.
A huge well done to all those who got promoted on the night, including Professors Adam and Lewis! It was great to witness the lesser seen black belt promotions, as well as all those who received new blue and purple belts. All were very well deserved through your continued hard work and dedication to your own Jiu Jitsu journeys.
Timetable Update: Tuesdays and Thursdays
As mentioned last month, we’ve updated our class times on a Tuesday and Thursday evening to offer additional GB2 classes in both gi and no gi. This is followed by live training, similar to our competition training format including positional sparring followed by live rounds.
