What an incredible month at the academy! We’ve been really privileged to welcome Professor Victor Estima back for our annual Winter Seminar and Grading - a huge congratulations to everyone who got promoted, and a special congratulations to Professor Luke and Josh on their black belts!

It’s been all systems go here at Gracie Barra Harrogate, as we organise some really exciting seminars, programmes and events for the final push towards Christmas! Last month, we had a great time at our free women’s self defence seminar, as we welcomed over 20 women onto the mats for a great night of fundamental self defence techniques, hosted by Professor Lewis and Professor Khalil!

Competitions continued to come thick and fast in August and September. Archie headed to the Merseyside Open and enjoyed some fantastic results, whilst Kitty headed to the Midlands Open, bringing home a silver medal. Well done team! A big shout out to Joshua and Sofia for their amazing performances at the South Yorkshire Open this month, too!.

Welcome to our September newsletter! It’s been a great month so far. We’ve seen some excellent competition success at the recent South Yorkshire Open, and at the back end of August, we welcomed the brilliant Ross Nicholls to the academy for a fantastic seminar.

In an effort to build confidence for women of all ages in the Harrogate community, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy Gracie Barra Harrogate is running a free women’s self defence seminar at their purpose built facility on the 20th of September.

After a busy June, we’re really excited to be moving in to the summer holiday period with plenty of plans for the summer!

June has seen us award our Members of the Month to Tommy, Noah, Maya and Lila, and we’re really proud of the effort level shown across the GBK programmes over the last few months.

After an action packed June, we’re moving full steam ahead with heaps of events scheduled over the coming weeks in and out of the academy.

First up, we’ve got our annual summer grading on the 19th of July. We’re really excited to celebrate the progress and effort of our members with some fresh belts being handed out after open mat and rolls on Friday the 19th! After, we’ll be heading to Roosters for celebratory drinks - don’t miss it!

Gracie Barra Harrogate women took to the Total Warrior course last weekend to raise vital funds for Harrogate-based charity, New Beginnings Peer Support - with fundraising coming in at £950!

We’ve seen excellent competition performances in May. We had the Yorkshire Open over at Barnsley with an excellent turn out for both kids and adults. A HUGE well done to the amazing Sofia, Evalyn, James, Sampson and Oliver - The coaching team are so proud of your progress and effort, and putting yourselves out there to compete!

Coming up this month, we’ve got a fantastic up and coming Jiu Jitsu athlete visiting the club - Sula-Mae Loewenthal! We’re super excited to have her here on Friday 21st August and can’t wait to see what she brings to both the kids and adult seminars

We know how hard everyone has been working ahead of the competition, and we can’t wait for everyone to enjoy the day and support each other on and off the mats.
