Empire Grappling North East Open

A huge well done and congratulations to everyone who headed to the Empire Grappling North East Open this weekend! For some it was their first competition, or first competition at a new belt. Testing yourself both outside of the academy and at a new level is an amazing opportunity, and it’s great to see so many people putting themselves out there.

A big well done to Alex, Sam, Stefanie, Jack and James!

Study Hall: A Change In Structure

Our Friday study hall sessions will be taking a slightly different structure going forward. Going forward, we’ll have GB1 and a GB2 study hall sessions, collating classes from within their respective 16 week curriculum, focusing on specific topic areas. For example, classes will cover off all side control escapes, or all mount attacks and so on. This offers our members a fantastic opportunity to receive a comprehensive round up of specific positions, and a great session to catch up on areas of the curriculum you may feel you’ve missed or would like to work on.

Introducing: The Gracie Barra Women’s Podcast: Girls Who Roll

The latest GBF programme is now over half way through, and we’re really impressed with the progress everyone has been making each week. Coinciding with the launch of our latest GBF Programme, we’ve made our first GBF podcast episode with a group of our wonderful female members, discussing their Jiu Jitsu journeys and how they got started.

You can catch the full episode on our YouTube channel here.

A big shout out to Ed, Grant and Jack for their podcast too, discussing Ed’s introduction to BJJ - Wash Your Gi! Check this out on Spotify and Amazon Music.

Coach Jack Takes On His First Super Fight

A huge well done to Coach Jack who entered his first super fight event on the 4th of February! We’re so proud of the way he stepped his game up and reached another intensity in competition at the Victory Invitational event in Liverpool.

Coach Jack has had setbacks from injury, but shows his resilience and love for self improvement by continuously pushing himself outside of his comfort zone - well done Coach Jack - everyone at Gracie Barra Harrogate is hugely proud of you!

GB Apperley Bridge Update

Our fit out of our sister school is coming along nicely! With lighting in and changing rooms built, we’re starting to get a great feel for how the space will look. There’s plenty of work to do between now and our opening in March, so keep an eye on our social media accounts for updates - @gb_apperley_bridge!
