Gracie Barra Harrogate October Newsletter

It’s been all systems go here at Gracie Barra Harrogate, as we organise some really exciting seminars, programmes and events for the final push towards Christmas! Last month, we had a great time at our free women’s self defence seminar, as we welcomed over 20 women onto the mats for a great night of fundamental self defence techniques, hosted by Professor Lewis and Professor Khalil!

October promises to be just as busy - we have Emil from Empire Grappling visiting on the 20th of October to host a BJJ rules seminar (future referees, don’t miss this one!). Before that, our 4th GBF programme kicks off next week as we welcome a new group of women to the Grapple Studio for their introduction to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - a big hello to our new GBF members and we look forward to welcoming you onto the mats!

Competition season isn’t showing signs of slowing down just yet - a big good luck to the team heading to the IBJJF London Fall Open next weekend - we know you’ll smash it! For those looking for something a little closer to home, the Empire Grappling Lancashire Open takes place in November - find out more about that one below.

Finally, we’ve recently sent out our member satisfaction survey. We’d really appreciate it if our members could spare 5 minutes to complete this. This survey helps us understand what we are doing well but most importantly, what we can do better. If you haven’t received this, please feel free to reach out and we can send you the link.

See you on the mats!

Member Satisfaction Survey

This month we have sent out our Member Satisfaction Survey and we’d really appreciate your time to fill this out. Completion only takes between 5 and 10 minutes, but it gives us invaluable insight into how our members are finding their experience at Gracie Barra Harrogate. Whilst giving your name is optionally anonymous, we’d encourage anyone who has any specific feedback or would like to discuss anything in more detail to reach out - we’ll be more than happy to have a chat!

Midweek Morning Timetable Changes

Please note that we’re making some amends to our timetable, beginnning next week. The only classes affected are our midweek morning classes, which will now be as follows:

Monday: 06.30 - Gi Class with Iosif

Wednesday: 06.30 - NoGi with Lewis

Friday: 06.30 - Gi Class with Luke

BJJ Rules Seminar - 20th October

Emil from Empire Grappling will be visiting the academy on the 20th of October to host a BJJ Rules Seminar. Whether you have aspirations for refereeing competitions or simply want to have a deeper understanding of the BJJ rulset, Emil offers a wealth of experience and is the perfect person to learn from! Get in touch today to book your space or find out more information.

GBF Is Back!

We’re really excited to be kicking off our 4th GBF programme at the academy this month. This is built on the success of our Free Women’s Self Defence Seminar, which took place in September and proved to be a huge success! If you know of any women who would like to join our GBF programme, we have spaces available before our first classes begin next week! Get in touch today to find out more and book a spot!

Upcoming Competitions

We’re really excited to be heading to the Empire Grappling Lancashire Open on the 3rd of November. Registration is open until the 24th of October, so why not test your skills on the competition stage with teammates in tow?

A big good luck to Coach Jack, Eddie, Wasim and Coach Aza heading to the IBJJF Fall Open in London on the 12th and 13th of October. We have no doubt this will be an amazing experience for all of you, and we can’t wait to hear how you’ve gone on!

Women’s Self Defence Seminar Success

We we’re privileged to welcome over 20 women to the academy for our free women’s self defence seminar last month. Taking place each year, this seminar offers an introduction in to fundamental self defence principles such as distance management, managing personal space and escaping escalating situations. A big thank you to everyone who attended, and we hope everyone went home with some knowledge and confidence to keep themselves safe should they need to.
