GB Harrogate Adults Newsletter - August 2024

Hi Everyone

Welcome to our August newsletter! We had a fantastic July at the academy which saw our annual Summer Grading take place on Friday the 19th. It was great to celebrate everyone’s progress, and congratulations to everyone who got promoted, be it a stripe or a fresh belt!

Competitions continued to come thick and fast. Eddie, Aza, Jack and Archie headed to the Merseyside Open and enjoyed some fantastic results, whilst Wasim headed over to Venice to compete at the IBJJF Venice Open - coming home with a well-earned bronze medal!

The Midlands Open also saw Aza and Kitty test their skills outside of the academy in July. Bothfantastic matches against high level opponents, each earning a silver medal - well done team!

Ellie competed at a fantastic interclub competition at the Warrior Women Interclub in Keighley, enjoying a submission win at a great event - well done Ellie!

Coming up, we’ve got an unmissable seminar with Ross Nicolls. He comes to Gracie Barra Harrogate on the 25th of August for 2 back to back seminars! In the morning, he will be covering no-gi guard passing, before moving on to Octopus guard in the afternoon!

Ross is not only a well decorated competitor - an ADCC European Champion, a 3x Polaris Superfight winner, and IBJFF No Gi British National Champion, he’s also a highly respected coach, leading both Gi and No Gi at London Grapple. We’d encourage anyone who wants to improve their no-gi game to attend, with 2 sessions available - catch the link below!

August will also see the Empire Grappling Tyne and Wear Open take place on the 11th of August, with Wasim, Aza, Jack and Dani scheduled to take part - good luck guys! We’ll all be rooting for you!

See you on the mats!

Women’s Free Self Defence Seminar - 20th September

We’re really excited to be hosting another Women’s Self Defence Seminar at Gracie Barra Harrogate. We’ll be kicking off on Friday the 20th of September here in the academy. If know of any women or girls aged 16 or above and would like to book a spot, they can do so online, or speak to one of the team at team@gbharrogate.com!

Summer Grading Success

It was brilliant to celebrate so many people’s progress and success at our recent success, and fantastic to see so many people come and support them at our open mat session on the 19th of July. We pride ourselves on the high standards we hold here at the academy, and getting promoted is no easy feat! Congratulations to everyone who received a new belt, as well as those who received stripes on the night - so well deserved!

Competition Success At Home and Abroad!

Empire Grappling Tyne and Wear Open Incoming!

GOOD LUCK to everyone competing at the Empire Grappling Tyne and Wear Open this month! We’re so proud of the competition attendance from the team - it’s a fantastic chance to test yourselves outside of the usual pool of training partners, and there is so much to learn from entering events like these. We can’t wait to hear about how you’ve got on.

It’s not too late to enter the South Yorkshire Open, taking place in September. With our coaching team attending, this is the perfect competition for first time competitors, and it promises to be a great team day out! Interested? Sign up here!
